Brass Murugan Vel With Face
Worshipping the Brass Murugan Vel is a significant tradition in Tamil culture, as the Vel is not merely a weapon but the personification of Lord Murugan’s power, protection, and wisdom.
How to Worship the Murugan Vel
In a home setting, the Vel is often treated with the same reverence as an idol of the deity.
-
Placement: Place the Vel in your Pooja room, ideally facing East. It should be kept on a clean wooden platform or a brass plate.
-
Abhishekam (Sacred Bath): Periodically (especially on Tuesdays or during Sasti), you can perform a simple Abhishekam using water, milk, or sandalwood paste, followed by wiping it dry to maintain the brass shine.
-
Offerings: Apply Vibhuti (sacred ash) and Sandalwood paste to the blade. Offer fresh flowers (red flowers like Hibiscus are preferred) and light a traditional oil lamp or incense.
-
Chanting: Reciting the Kanda Sashti Kavasam or the simple mantra “Om Saravana Bhava” while focusing on the Vel is believed to charge the space with positive energy.
